Everything You Should Know Before Starting Bunny Nursing

Bunny Nursing is an essential step after your rabbits give birth. Remember that rabbits breed extremely fast, so you must control this by keeping male and female rabbits separate unless you specifically want them to breed. Here are some basic guidelines to follow whether you are caring for a pregnant or a new mother rabbit.

Where Should the Babies Be Placed?

Make a cozy nest environment for the babies in a box with clean clothes. We prefer to place one folded towel on the bottom and another bunched on top so the babies can snuggle in. You can also lay soft nesting wool on top of the towel, which you can get from a pet store.

You can also use whatever nesting material they came in and place it in the box. Cover the box almost totally with a light towel, ensuring enough air to prevent the infants from suffocating. It's normally enough to leave a one-inch gap at the top.

What Should Babies Be Feed?

Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) or goat milk, purchased at pet stores or even a local veterinarian's office, should be offered to baby rabbits. Add one tablespoon of 100 percent heavy whipping cream (no sugar) to each can of KMR because rabbit milk is the most caloric of all mammals. The majority of kits will not nurse from store-bought baby animal bottles.

Use a sterile oral syringe instead, which can be found at most pharmacies. These nipples, which come with a syringe, are a better choice. However, you might not be able to locate them locally/right immediately.

In Short

Around the age of ten days, the eyes of a baby rabbit opened. At this point, you can start giving them hay and pellets but no vegetables or fruits. Ensure the pellets are unsweetened, high in fiber, and fresh, with no extra ingredients like dried banana chunks or seeds. Hopefully, this article answers any questions you have on Bunny Nursing.
